Fruits and Seeds

The date fruit seed is an embryonic plant itself and the origin of nutrition. A date fruit seed is a life, because it's good source of nutritional(mineral, vitamin and etc).
We mentioned some of its attributes for you:

Description

The fruits (dates) of the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) contain a high percentage of carbohydrate (total sugars, 44-88%), fat (0.2-0.5%), 15 salts and minerals, protein (2.3-5.6%), vitamins and a high percentage of dietary fibre (6.4-11.5%). The flesh of dates contains 0.2-0.5% oil, whereas the seeds contains 7.7-9.7% oil. The weight of the seed is 5.6-14.2% of the date.

Nutritional attributes

Date seeds are a low protein feed, with about 5-11% DM crude protein. Oil content is in the 4-14 % DM range. Date pits contain high and variable quantities of fibre, with a high level of lignification: crude fibre 16-51 % DM, NDF 58-90 % DM, ADF 41-46 % DM and ADL 4-18 % . Varietal differences are significant. Date pits contain appreciable amounts of K followed by P, Mg and Ca and a low Na content. Of the micro elements Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu are the most important ones.
The fatty acids occur in both flesh and seed as a range of saturated and unsaturated acids, the seeds containing 14 types of fatty acids, but only eight of these fatty acids occur in very low concentration in the flesh. Unsaturated fatty acids include palmitoleic, oleic, lauric and oxalic acid. The oleic acid content of the seeds varies from 41.1 to 58.8%, which suggests that the seeds of date could be used as a source of oleic acid.Date palm seeds contain 0.56–5.4% lauric acid. They can also be processed chemically as a source of oxalic acid.
Experimental studies have shown that feeding mice with the aqueous extract of date pits exhibit anti-genotoxic and reduce DNA damage induced by N-Nitroso-N-methylurea.

Popular Uses

Date seeds are traditionally used for animal feed. They can also be used as a source of oil (which has antioxydant propeties valuable in cosmetics) in soap and cosmetics , as a coffee substitute, as a raw material for activated carbon or as an adsorbent for dye-containing. Date by-products are usually distributed to animals during winter, though they can also be used year round .
The seeds are also burned to make charcoal for silversmiths, and can be strung in necklaces.
